Having Fun Capetown
Arrival at Capetown, can't remember
if we stopped on the way down, I'm sure
we did, but I do remember lots about the
voyage, up early clean the decks down,
paint the Davits, the food was great,
our cabin right up under the fo'c'sle head
etc ...
We went to Capetown, Port Elizabeth,
East London, Durban, only got photos
of Capetown... Durban was fantastic,
even had a fairground by the beach
I think....
Looking east from Table Mountain
Capetown
Below is a photo from another trip as
we did go up in the cable car from the
Pendennis. As we docked twice in
Capetown I don't know which visit the
photos are from, the other photo is
Les a deckie hanging over the edge
on Table Mountain.
Homeward Bound
Leaving Capetown, homeward bound...
the helmsman was sick or something so
after volunteering i was helmsman on
the way back... oh what a buzz, big
BRASS wheel to steer with, great
Officers, what a joy to do, I was truly
blessed to get that job!
Back At Southampton
What a trip, as crew we disembarked through
a Gunport door in the side of the ship,
exciting in itself.... I don't know if I was asked
back, but I should have tried to get on again.
A year later the ship was sold, I didn't find
that out till years later, regrets but at least I
did one trip!
